Your CV Is Your Recruitment Tinder Profile

You’ve got a split second to make an impression

I’m in the process of hiring a product manager for my team and a recent CV that came across my desk had the headline:

Your next Product Manager

My first reaction was “That’s confident” and my second reaction was “Do I think people that confident would thrive within my team?”.

The answer was no and within a few seconds of scanning the rest of the CV for something to change my mind the CV was added to the pile of “Thanks but no thanks”.

I had swiped left.

Recruiters make negative decisions quickly

I’m sure you know that the premise of Tinder is that the user will be presented with the profile of a potential match for a date. The user will then make a decision based on the profile information in front of them and either swipe right if they like the look of the person or swipe left if they’re not a match.

It can easily lead to users getting into a rhythm of swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe, basing their decisions on their initial reaction to what’s in front of them.

Man in speedos. Swipe left.
