It’s been an insane week. Trump has made sweeping, foundational changes to domestic and international policy by executive edict, acting more like a monarch than a President.

His radical policy vision is unprecedented, dangerous, and contrary to our identity as a nation and our core values as Americans. He is taking a sledgehammer to the Statue of Liberty.

You can read more about Trump’s blueprints for mass deportation here and more about his Muslim ban here.

Trump’s executive actions are worse than many experts imagined but still many Republicans, including all of the top Republicans from Ohio, have remained silent.

If you haven’t yet, it’s important that you call your Members of Congress. You can find their contact information here. Leave a message demanding that they stand against Trump’s racist anti-immigrant and anti-muslim agenda!

Advocates here in Columbus Are Responding to Trump’s Attacks on New Americans. Here’s what you can do.

The fight against Donald Trump’s attack on immigrants and refugees in Columbus focuses on three fronts.

First, advocates are working to limit immigrants exposure to unnecessary arrest due to a lack of identification. Organizations like BREAD are leading efforts for a citywide ID. The ID benefits many at-risk communities including immigrants, and the campaign is picking up steam. Check out bread if you’re looking to get more involved.

Second, advocates are working to ensure that city and county law enforcement officials refuse to engage in Donald Trump’s deportation force. Trump’s mass deportation agenda depends on the cooperation of local law enforcement and organizations like Mijente with the support of local leaders like Ruben Castilla Herrera are telling Mayor Ginther to stand up to Trump. Be sure to sign the petition here. And if you’re looking for a crash course on sanctuary city policies be sure to check out the workshop hosted by Central Ohio Worker Center at 6:30 pm on Tuesday January, 31. You can RSVP for the Facebook event here.

And third, advocates are working to create networks of support to fight deportations. On Saturday, a group of city leaders, service providers, and community advocates gathered for an emergency meeting in response to Donald Trump’s executive actions targeting immigrants and refugees. The first goal of the group is to create a directory of organizations and individuals providing services to the immigrant and refugee community.

The group believes that if advocates and service providers respond quickly to deportations in Columbus, we will be able to make sure immigrants here have access to the legal, financial, and community support they need to fight their deportation if they are targeted by Trump’s Deportation Force.

So if you work for an organization that supports the immigrant and refugee community here in Columbus or are just a concerned resident who wants to fight to protect immigrants and refugees here in Columbus, please add your name to this directory and share it with your friends.
