Default To Lead

I don’t know about you, but when put into a situation — I default to lead.

I don’t know why that is.

Maybe it’s because my dad always did it.

Maybe it’s because I admire teachers and mentors who did it.

But it wasn’t something that was directly taught to me.

I don’t say this to boast or anything.

It’s just an observation.

I know many others who do the same.

Put them in a situation and they’ll default to lead.

Granted they all have different styles,

And some do it better than others.

I was talking with a friend of mine yesterday wondering why people don’t default to lead.

It’s an interesting question.

Why don’t people default to lead?

At the same time — I don’t know if there’s an answer that would spark a solution.

It kind of just is what it is.

All I know is that…

If you want to move the ball forward.

If you want to make big changes.

If you want to make little changes.

Then you need to lead.

You need to lead yourself first.

And then lead others.

So how do we move forward from here?

To quote a song from the band The The entitled Lonely Planet.

If you can’t change the world. Change yourself.

And if you can’t change yourself….change your world.

Try defaulting to lead sometime.

It’s not as bad as you think it is.

It would mean a lot to me and it helps other people see the story.
