Got Tech Budget?
In my travels I have found…
Most small businesses don’t have an annual budget.
Why is that you ask?
This one easy.
It’s because the owner doesn’t want one.
So then what is this whole thing about got tech budget?
The idea I want to share is this.
I know that you are not going to make a budget just because some blog article tells you to.
So how about this?
Pick a number.
Yes, I know that sounds crazy.
But pick a number.
Pick a number on what you will spend on just tech equipment next year.
Seriously, pick a number.
Here are some ideas.
One, pick a random number. $10,000, $20,000, $50,000.
Or option two, pick a percentage of revenue. 1%, 2%, 5%.
The point is to pick a number.
Something you feel comfortable or slightly comfortable spending.
Then commit to spend that much on purchasing new equipment in the coming year.
At least think about it.
Consequences
Like I said, most small businesses don’t operate on a budget.
This lack of budgeting makes most tech purchases seem like an inconvenience.
Or a nuisance.
For example.
Have you ever said?
I have to buy a computer again?
Or the phrase…
Why is it you tech people always want money from me?
Both stem from the lack of having a tech budget.
This lack of budgeting or planning can also create a negative stigma around the tech in your business.
And that’s not a good place to be when you’re trying to run a modern business.
It’s a wrap.
But this doesn’t mean that the tech in your business can go ignored.
The tech in your business is a living breathing thing.
It needs regular care and feeding.
If you don’t have a budget.
At least make a plan.
It’s a step in the right direction.
That will help you to get your tech right.
