The Obama-Biden Bromance Has Reached Its Adorable, Tearjerking Conclusion
For the past eight years we’ve had the honor and pleasure of witnessing one of the great love stories of our age play out in front of our eyes. I am referring, of course, to the love between Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
During President Obama’s farewell address, we were treated to a display of affection that brought tears to every eye.
President Obama took a moment during the farewell address to pay tribute to his friendship with his vice president: “You were the first decision I made as a nominee, and it was the best,” the President said, “not just because you have been a great Vice President, but because in the bargain I gained a brother. And we love you and Jill like family. And your friendship has been one of the great joys of our lives.”
Biden, of course, responded with finger guns.
If you needed a reminder, this is what Biden gave Obama for his 55th birthday:
So while the genuine affection and goofiness on display during President Obama’s tribute to Biden wasn’t a surprise…
…Obama’s presentation of the Presidential Medal of Freedom certainly was.
This moment is especially touching if you remember the early relationship between the two men — due to a number of gaffes made by Biden and their widely differing styles, their relationship during Obama’s first term was strained.
Biden’s reactions to Obama’s praise and affectionate ribbing were, in a word, priceless.
Here’s hoping we see more of these two in the next four years, because this bromance is here to stay.
