The SAG Awards Were a Sublime Mix of Entertainment and Real-Talk

Monday night’s SAG Awards were the usual hodgepodge of guilty-pleasure cringe and delectable celebrity fashion, but shit got real on the podium.

Once again, Hollywood used the spotlight to make spirited political statements about the new administrations, covering all their bases — from the heightened demands that women be treated like human beings to the refugee ban.

Taraji P. Henson’s Hidden Figures speech was a tearjerker and a spine-tingler as she used the podium to preach love like a total badass — all the while looking like a pretty, pretty princess.

Basically, we can expect a hissy fit any minute now on the Twitter page of a certain presidential somebody — no names mentioned.

Lily Tomlin lightened things up onstage, and had the crowd laughing their faces off.

And the award for the most adorably awkward speech goes to… Emma Stone!

Although John Lithgow was a major contender.

Emma Stone delivered one of the most relatable speeches of the evening, addressing her deep insecurities and her need to do “a bit of mental gymnastics” to feel like she deserved the award for LaLa Land. I just want to give her a big hug and whisper in her ear, “you’re worth it, girl.” #NotCreepyAtAll

Oh, let us not forget that the Stranger Things kids proved themselves to be the ultimate life of the party, reminding us all to kick it with our inner child ASAP.

Speaking of Stranger Things, few things were much stranger (or more surprising, hilarious, concerning, or other adjectives) than Winona Ryder’s reaction faces during the Stranger Things speech.

All in all, it was a night of much-needed enjoyment for the glorious actors of the Guild, and not without some necessary discussion of these strange, confusing times.

And major props to all you actors out there who managed to make Meryl Streep feel like one proud mama.
