My Next Move: Joining GGV Capital as an EIR
by Jason Costa
I’ve been fortunate to spend time at several great companies in the consumer internet/mobile space — Google, Facebook, Twitter, and most recently at Pinterest. Now, I’m taking my next step, joining GGV Capital as an EIR. GGV is a global venture capital firm with $3.8 billion under management and a team spread out across the U.S. and China.
It’s a new role for me and for the firm, with a lot of flexibility to try new things as well as work with GGV portfolio companies on product, user experience, design and beyond. It also gives me a great opportunity to work with global start-ups (a passion of mine), and to leverage my experience working for Google in Beijing in 2008 and 2009.
I distinctly recall meeting the GGV team a few years ago during my time working on the Twitter Platform, and was blown away by the people there. As I got to know the team on a personal level, I found them to be incredibly smart yet humble, extremely helpful to entrepreneurs, and acutely aware of trends in both Silicon Valley and Asia (before anyone else was thinking about it). They’ve backed many successful companies in spaces I care about — companies like Alibaba, AirBnB, Didi, Slack, Youku Tudou, Houzz, Wish, Qunar, Musical.ly and many others.
I’m convinced that a global mindset amongst the next generation of entrepreneurs will drive the great companies of this era — creating game changing products and services for an audience of 2 billion smartphone users. It’s a mindset GGV actively seeks out, and I’m thrilled to be joining the team.
