With the rise of connectivity across Ghana, telcos make it easy for customers to stay connected to the internet. They usually provide bundles which you’ll usually have to manage yourself. Sometimes, this is a bother.

DataBank is an Android app created by 15-year-old Emmanuel Kwakye Nyantakyi, who sees the the discomfort in always checking your data once in a while to see that you’re in a safe zone for that download or stream. Occasionally, the telcos might send a flash message but that doesn’t suffice. Sometimes, you need a constant reminder.

What Databank is this. The app helps you set limits, on your data usage. Once that cap hits, for Android KitKat(4.4) and lower, the app will turn off your data and wifi. For users of Android’s later versions, the app will only turn off your wifi, and display a notification for you to our off your mobile data. Clicking on the notification will send the user to the settings page for the user to turn off the data by themselves.

For experienced users of Android, there’s a feature to help you set data warnings, but that’s usually quite uneasy to set, and may not be as intuitive in its calculations. Databank is a nifty implementation of this feature, and will be helpful to have an app like that.

Come to think that a 15-year-old built this, it’s worth celebrating, and giving some ears to. If you haven’t downloaded the app, it might be worth your time especially if you find it difficult managing your data, and rationing it. Do check it out.
