On August 21st, up to 12 of Ghana’s best seed stage startups will compete at Seedstars Accra 2016 to represent the country at the Seedstars Summit and win up to USD 1.5 million in equity investment prizes.

Seedstars World, the global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, returns to Ghana on 21st August 2016, with the support of a local ambassador Impact Hub. To be eligible, a competing startup at the Seedstars Accra event needs to be less than 2 years old, have raised less than USD 500,000 in funding and have built a minimum viable product, ideally with traction and scalable nature.

With a network of partners such as Inmarsat, INADEM, Standard Bank and Deloitte, Seedstars World scouts for smart startups that solve regional issues and develop profitable products for the global market, to support their regional businesses and growth.

To provide local entrepreneurs with this opportunity and aiming to deliver the best possible event, Impact Hub Accra, with continued support for Seedstars since last year, is representing the initiative.

“Impact Hub Accra is at the center of an exciting and growing startup ecosystem in Ghana, we offer a wide range of opportunities for dynamic startups to grow and scale, such opportunities includes global partnership with organizations such as Seedstars.” says Victor Ofoegbu, Community Manager at Impact Hub Accra.

“The startups who participated on our event last year were phenomenal and we are very excited to come back this year, as we know for sure the bars have been raised and there will be even more amazing startups coming our way.” says Selam Kebede, Seedstars Associate for Africa.

For startups who focus on education, further support is provided, by the Swiss Embassy and the Jacobs Foundation, to bring the “Transforming Education Prize” (TRECC), which will award the best startup in the education space from around the world with a prize of over USD 50,000.

The winner of Seedstars Accra 2016 will be invited to compete at the annual Seedstars Summit in Switzerland. Ghana was previously represented by Asoriba last year, Kitiwa in 2014 and Retail Tower in 2013.

Applications for the Seedstars World event are open now and startups that wish to compete can apply on the event website.
