How to Start a Startup on Medium

About a week ago I wrote about using Medium to build an MVP. I found that using Medium to build an MVP is an effective way to test and validate assumptions about your product before putting to much time into building it. In terms of ROI, Medium is the best bang for your buck. Today, I decided to put it to the test.
I decided to create an alternative to Neue Store (by Jake Frey). Neue Store is a new kind of app store built to improve discovery on the app store. I figured it would be easy to clone Neue Store on Medium. It wouldn’t have all the features of the original web app, but I don’t think that’s a con, especially since it comes with a bunch of other advantages. For those of you who are curious, it took me 5 minutes (literally!) to build it. I called it HomeScreen because all of our apps reside on our homescreens (duh!). Check it out:
How I Built It
The first step is creating a new draft.
Afterwards, I chose 9 apps I liked on the Neue Store homepage and I saved the app screenshots into a folder called neue on my desktop (this is an important step).
After adding instruction on my draft, I added the 9 screenshots in an image grid. For more information on creating an image grid, you can read this.
After that, I added the links to each app in the corresponding images. If you don’t know how to add links to images, read this.
And voila, it’s done!
It only took me 5 minutes to replicate something that probably took a few hours for Jake to do. What I like about using this method is that it doesn’t take any time at all, posts get shared more than websites and it’s waaay easier to edit and maintain. Don’t forget, it’s also hosted for free!
The next time you’re about to embark on a new project, consider using Medium. It’s easy to use, cheap and fast af.
