Make your own invitations: Tips for the practical and modern bride
DIY fun! I love DIYs and so we decided to design our KENSHI2015 invitations. I had some boo boos along the way but hey, i think it turned out great!
What i used:
- Invitation and RSVP card made using canva.com @canva
- Name chop (Dojang) and red seal paste from Korea (the best thing we bought in Korea!)
- Printing and envelopes by Sure Prints
Some tips for DIY and practical brides:
1. Pick a theme/style — This was the hardest part! Try to browse through Pinterest or Minted for inspiration. You should also consider the wordings that fit your theme. In our case, i wanted it to be a bit more formal, so we opted for the usual invitation wordings. I guess the best tip is just consider your personalities. Nothing beats being true to yourselves :)
2. Think about your budget — This will dictate the materials you’ll use and the method of printing. If you have no idea how much materials (ink, paper, envelope, paper cutter, etc) would cost, i suggest you buy a few first and then test print. It may end up that DIY will cost you more, so this is a bit tricky!
3. Design with paper and printer in mind — My design is an ink killer! I designed it using canva.com. It’s great site for designers and non-designers like me (you may also get design inspiration from the site). I initially thought i’d do home printing but I had no idea how many prints 1 ink will take. In the end i wasted some inks on test prints and then finally decided to outsource the printing!
4. Outsource the printing — Consider outsourcing the printing if you really don’t have a great home printer. And it may be more cost efficient than buying lots of ink and specialty papers. Also if you don’t have any idea what printer works best on what type of paper, i really suggest you find a printing company. In the US, there are lots of options, both online and offline. I hope we’ll have online options in the PH as well! Super hassle-free.
5. Test print, test print, test print — I had a few test prints at home so i had an idea how it may turn out with the printing company. But it will help if your ask the printing company to send/show you test prints before you make it a go!
6. Complete the look with the envelope — The printing company included the envelopes with the package i got, yey! So all i really had to do was stamp it with our names and ask my calligrapher friend @thedesignhobbyist to address the envelopes. But consider what envelope you’ll use to fit your theme. I initially thought i’ll just cover them with paper doilies! But the envelopes gave our invites a more formal look.
