GIFTO Weekly Update — 23 May 2018
A Message from Andy Tian, CEO and co-founder of Uplive and GIFTO
This week we break new ground again as we are opening up usage of GTO in Uplive to most users globally. Plus, we are releasing another GTO game below! Yes, goal is to use GTO in as many of our products as possible…
Wallet update
Millions of Uplive users can now see the Gifto wallet
As of today, Uplive users from five more countries globally have gained access to the Gifto wallet in Uplive, not just Hong Kong, Korea, and Taiwan users we were previously testing with. This means that you, as a GTO token-holder in a permitted country, can install the Uplive app, see a Gifto wallet, and send any number of your on-chain tokens to the wallet for use in Uplive. As of today, newly added countries are:
- Thailand
- Singapore
- Japan
- Macau
- Brazil
- India
- Philippines
Over the next few days we will continue opening up the wallet to most countries worldwide.
Airdropping GTO to Uplive users continues
Opening up the Gifto wallet in Uplive is step one. Step two is giving users unfamiliar with GTO tokens to use. As part of our campaign to onboard Uplive users to GTO, we’ve continued airdropping a nominal amount of GTO for use within Uplive into user accounts.
We are thus on-track to our target of having 500,000 GTO token-holders by the end of May, another huge milestone within the crypto community.
Towards millions of gift sends
We recognize that just because a user in Uplive has GTO doesn’t mean they will spend it. Driving token usage will require increasing user awareness about how GTO, as a cryptocurrency, is different from uDiamonds, Uplive’s native virtual currency, and the benefits of using it in Uplive. We’ll explore those benefits more in a future post here.
This education and communication of Uplive users to spur usage, including the broader vision of Gifto, will take time, and requires much more than simply reminding users in the product. To that end, our Gifto product, operations, and marketing teams across our Asia and US offices are engaging users and broadcasters in innovative ways, and we’re confident that our multi-pronged approach will keep us at the forefront of mainstreaming cryptocurrency usage in consumer apps.
Opening up wallets and activating users in Uplive is the first step to enable influencers and their fans to use Gifto’s universal gifting platform, which will open up a huge global audience for Gifto and make Gifto the most used token by mass market users.
Separately we are also working on our new gifting platform, www.gifto.io, so that Gifto gifting and token usage can sail far beyond Uplive.
In sum: We are on-track to hit our goals and more excited than ever about the next few months for Gifto, though regular usage of GTO at scale will take time, as it does for any groundbreaking consumer technology.
Gifto Games Update
Giftomon
Our addictive Giftomon battle game currently requires the Metamask wallet for gameplay, and as a result incurs fees and transaction wait periods due to current congestion in the Ethereum network. The team is now working on Gifto wallet integration to provide zero-fee, instant transactions and gameplay with other Giftomon users, while also preserving the ability for users to transfer their Giftomon characters and prizes on-chain and to other game worlds. The Gifto game dev team is thus at the forefront of developing crypto-gaming that benefits from the best of both private-chain (Gifto wallet) and public-chain (Ethereum) technology. The current version of Giftomon only represents a small piece of a much larger game, where we will bring in a lot of our previous Zynga social game experience. Stay tuned…
Sports Prediction Game with GTO
With the World Cup only a few weeks away, we are launching a new cryptocurrency sports prediction platform where users can wager GTO and ETH and win prizes. Football fans can make predictions on match outcomes, goals scored, player stats and much, much more.

- Virtual Gifting Protocol Gifto Listed on Bithumb
Ethereum blockchain-based virtual gifting protocol Gifto(GTO) was listed on the cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb on May 16. Gifto is a cryptocurrency and a decentralized protocol built on Ethereum. It was developed to allow creators to create profits by improving the poor profit ecosystem of content creators who depend on advertising earnings given by platforms like YouTube.
2. GIFTO X Fastfive Meetup
GIFTO participated in the GIFTO x FASTFIVE meetup on May 17th, 2018. Mr Dylan Park, the head of GIFTO Korea, spoke about ‘Decentralized Technology: Challenges to Mass Consumer Adoption”, explaining the current status of GIFTO and how GIFTO is going to be adopted by mass market consumers in 2018. The Decenter, one of the most famous blockchain media in Korea, and Onther, blockchain software developing company were also participated. More than 100 people visited to this meetup, and it was a great networking session with people from South Korea’s blockchain industry.
