GIFTO Weekly Update — 27 March 2018
A Message from Andy Tian, CEO and co-founder of Uplive
Welcome everyone to our weekly update!
About the product:
Starting from this week, we will gradually allow more Uplive users to use the GIFTO wallet. It is not a large group of people, but the number will be far more than those who helped with our earlier tests within the community. We would like to thank everyone for your concern and participation in the test.
The GIFTO wallet is the foundation of our protocol. Once it is completed, we will dedicate more resources to encourage user adoption. As for the use of GIFTO wallet internally, it will be available for users of Uplive. Externally, the GIFTO wallet will be available for our Universal Gifting (UG) platform and other projects, including online influencers and digital currency users.
In the future, sending gifts using GIFTO will have the following application scenario examples:
- To gift via private message
- To gift using the UG platform, by removing the uDiamond and transform it into a pure GIFTO product
- To gift via Uplive PC/ H5 version
Through building up more user scenarios, we will be able to gradually improve the virtual gifting ecosystem.
About Virtual Gifts
There are a lot of users in the community who may not have a very clear idea about the live broadcasting model. Today, we will be talking about why people are spending money to send our virtual gifts to their favourite Uplive broadcasters.
Virtual gifts have been used in games for a while now. For example, many people buy skins or decorations to customise their games. These items may be for themselves or they may send it to friends whom they have an emotional connection with in the game as a gift.
This is also applicable in Uplive but virtual gifts are not just about attractive animation effects on the screen. The reason they are able to generate income is attributed to Uplive’s unique mechanics and social psychology.
Take for instance, imagine yourself feeling happy when you receive a precious gift from a friend. Is the memory still fresh in your mind? This is what we call the “emotional bond” and is a form of social interaction. When content creators receive the gifts and express thanks to their audience, the audience will draw a sense of identity from the interaction and continue to send gifts. This forms a virtuous cycle which deepens the social relationship between the audience and content creators.
Based on our experience, the creation of exquisite gifts also plays a part in enhancing the enthusiasm and number of times that gifts were sent. When we provide virtual gifting services, we can price it differently according to the quality of each gift and provide different target prices which can better enhance our broadcasters’ overall revenue. For example, we have a treasure planet gift and the price of it is US$7,000. It is one of our highest grade gifts and encompasses a tremendous gifting effect. According to statistics, our audience will send this gift only on very special days such as the broadcaster’s birthday.

Community Activity
We did our first fun Q&A event (GIFTO Nerd Club) with our community with over 2,300 responses. About a third of the participants have gotten all answers correct. The results surpassed our expectations and we are extremely surprised and proud of everyone. We certainly did not expect the average score to be so high, especially GIFTOers who answered everything correctly!
Our next GIFTO Nerd Club QnA will have more challenging questions for our participants to test everyone’s understanding of our project. We would like to thank all GIFTOers for your participation and we look forward to seeing you at our next challenge!
Until next week!
