According to various estimates, few, if any, of this number are surplus to demand. The duration of the relevant operating contracts is from 5 to 20 years.

The concept of creating an electric plant on a ship or barge is not new. Floating power plants, as they were originally called, were first widely discussed during the second world war. They were able to use diesel fuel, coal, natural gas and even nuclear energy as a source of energy, but the most common source has always been natural gas.

One of the undeniable advantages of floating power plants is that they can be built very quickly (compared to conventional land-based installations) in a factory environment that ensures the highest quality standards. They can be used for continuous, or “base load”, or intermittently as “peak installations”, and can be fully operational for 4–10 weeks after deployment. This is extremely fast compared to building conventional power plants that take years or even decades to build!
