Everything OK with Microsoft? Windows giant admits it was ‘on the wrong side of history’ with regard to open source | Richard Speed discusses how far Microsoft has moved from the days when Steve Ballmer said ‘Linux is a cancer’.

“Microsoft,” said [Microsoft President Brad] Smith during a chat hosted by MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL), “was on the wrong side of history when open source exploded at the beginning of the century and I can say that about me personally.”

He added: “The good news is that, if life is long enough, you can learn… that you need to change.”
