PROBING INTO THE MANAGEMENT OF EMERGENCIES IN GATED COMMUNITIES

This article is about the study of services offered by gated community platforms. Our team is studying the importance of the features provided by these platforms and how it is benefiting all stakeholders involved. In addition, we are specifically focusing on emergencies that arise in the community and its efficient management.

Why

It is important?

By keeping record of people entering and exiting the gate, Safety and security management using this platform becomes seamless and fast this allows security guards to focus on their primary task of guarding the compound. Some of these platforms also provide services to keep track of monthly maintenance and helper staff management; apart from this, they are also quick to raise a notification in the digital notice board so that people can promptly take action.

For who?

Residents can easily manage their helper staff, monthly maintenance, important notification, child security, etc. Security guards get pass-codes from residents to allow informed visitors, delivery partners, cab drivers, etc. while with uninformed. For Society Administrator, it avoids hectic way of maintaining records and organizing a booklet, instead the data is well organized and easily accessible.

What is the Problem Statement?

At present, ‘My Gate’ platform has only one way to deal with emergencies, which is providing ‘Emergency contact numbers’. Our team is looking into multiple emergency situations that can arise in a gated community and possible ways to tackle them.

How

Methods

We have started with our secondary research with Mind Mapping layer by layer the features and services of My Gate platform and issues dealt in a gated community. To come up with an area of interest we started with brainstorming on possible gaps that existed in these platforms. We are also planning to conduct case studies on past emergency events.

Mind Map of Features and Services offered by My Gate Platform
Brain storming on Ideas

As part of our primary research, questionnaires were formulated for conducting surveys through online forms and Interviews in structured and semi-structured form with residents, security guards and society admins.

Timeline

What

Expected Outputs

We are planning to come up wireframes of the extended ‘Emergency feature’ to the My Gate platform and possibly ‘minimum viable product’ will be developed. Integrating the existing emergency infrastructure present in a gated community with the My Gate platform.

Expected Outcomes

Understanding and incorporating new services in the system like ambulance, hospitals, fire and police stations and intern generating revenue for the platform. Improvement in safety and security of the residents expected, by implementing the ‘emergency feature’.
