GIPHY’s New ‘Daily Affurmations’ Deliver Positivity…& Puppies
GIPHY loves the Internet — it’s our playground. Nowadays, though, it’s easy to get lost in endless doom scrolling, and our time online can impact self perception; we compare ourselves to others rather than embracing ourselves and focusing on the things in life we can actually change.
As a platform that helps power visual expression, we want to help make the Internet a more positive space by creating a new and unique set of content that helps bring elements of both levity and self-love and acceptance into our digital periphery. And who better to communicate this message of humanity than man’s best friend?
We are proud to present Daily Affurmations — 84 emotionally affirming GIPHY Clips featuring the most adorable cast of doggos ever assembled. Featured talent includes Internet famous names like @tinkerbellethedog, @djangothegent, @puppynamedcharlie, @bubalahpoochie, and @dogwithsign — and a supporting cast of employee-owned pups (we always love featuring our in-house talent and this shoot was no different). At GIPHY, we often ask ourselves how we can support introspection and positive mental attitudes within our communities, work, and projects. Enter our heartwarming take on the classic trope of talking to oneself in the mirror (à la SNL’s Stuart Smalley, among others). With this production we modeled positive self-talk and provided reassuring messages for users to find and share with one another to build each other up.
Additionally, the use of a canine cast was very intentional. Dogs live in the moment. They shower us with unconditional love, trust, and attention that is pure and authentic in a world full of demands and expectations. And how we treat and relate to animals often creates positive experiences for people to open up and show gentleness and kindness. What better concepts are there to find in your reflection?
And of course, really hearing the message that we tell ourselves is so important — so we created these as GIPHY Clips (GIFs w/ Sound). We hired voice-over artists to provide the additional character and personality and further establish the humanity and inner voice of each dog.
Lastly, the shoot took place on two miniature sets that were built to represent different moments of self reflection. One tiny set was built as a bathroom, the room where we first greet ourselves in the mirror each day. The second was an abstract and serene set, full of cool colors and smooth shapes made to represent the conversation that occurs with ourselves in our tranquil mind as we drift off to sleep.
