The 2023 Game Awards celebrated the best in gaming last week with a star-studded ceremony full of speeches, game reveals and trailers.

From the surprise reveal of Hideo Kojima’s “OD,” to a riveting Old Gods of Asgard performance, the 2023 Game Awards had a little something for everyone as it marked a historic year for the industry.

All of the Game Reveals

This year’s Game Awards ceremony was the stage for several big game reveals, one of which ranked high on our list of the most-viewed GIFs from the night.

For starters, the night opened with the announcement of an upcoming remake of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, which is set to arrive Feb. 28, 2024.

Sony’s Santa Monica Studio surprised many Thursday night after it announced the release of free DLC to God of War Ragnarök. The DLC was released on Dec. 12.

Yup, it’s true: Marvel’s Blade is getting his own video game from game studio Arkane Lyon. This GIF from the reveal at the 2023 Game Awards was the ninth most-viewed GIF of the night.

Hideo Kojima took to the stage Thursday night to reveal a new collaboration with Jordan Peele called “OD.” This GIF of Kojima stepping out of a door to reveal OD was the fourth most-viewed GIF of the night with 11 million views, as of Wednesday.

Peele also joined Kojima on stage at the Game Awards to reveal OD. Here’s what he had to say about working with the video game veteran.

What is OD about? It’s unclear, but Thursday night’s mysterious teaser of the game showcased several performances from the game’s cast, which includes Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier. This GIF of Lillis’s performance from the teaser was the third most-viewed GIF of the night with 22.7 million views, as of Wednesday.

Hollywood Comes to the Game Awards

Hollywood was out in full force at the Game Awards Thursday night as several actors took to the stage to announce awards and new games.

For starters, Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey showed up to reveal Exodus, a new game by Archetype Entertainment starring McConaughey.

“Twisted Metal” star Anthony Mackie also made an appearance at the Game Awards to announce a second season for the Peacock show.

Simu Liu also stepped out Thursday night to announce the winner of Best Action Game. This GIF of Liu from the show was the most-viewed GIF of the night with 30.7 million views.

Of course, we can’t forget about Timothée Chalamet, who made an appearance as his YouTuber alter ego ModdedController360 to announce the biggest award of the night, Game of the Year.

Honorable Mention: These Two Internet-Worthy Moments

This year’s Game Awards also delivered several moments that went viral online.

For example, this GIF of Final Fantasy XVI actor Ben Starr made the rounds online, becoming the second most-viewed GIF of the night with 26 million views.

Developer Ikumi Nakamura made an enthusiastic return to the Game Awards this year to announce her first independent project, Kemuri. Nakamura charmed many with her announcement speech, producing several classic GIFs in the process.
