Fasten your seatbelts, passengers: the VMAs are back!

After hosting last year’s ceremony at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, the MTV Video Music Awards returned to New Jersey Sunday night with an electric ceremony full of VMA-worthy moments, from a surprise album announcement from Taylor Swift, to Nicki Minaj’s show-stopping medley performance of her best hits.

Like years past, we covered all of the moments from the 2022 VMAs live on the official VMA GIPHY channel in GIFs and Clips.

Here’s a look at some of the top GIFs and Clips from the night.

Most-Viewed GIFs: Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Lizzo

The VMAs are all about honoring the best music videos of the year, and this year’s ceremony featured some of the industry’s most storied and successful music video veterans — all of whom topped our list of the most-viewed GIFs from the night.

Lizzo won the “Video for Good” award for her music video for “About Damn Time.” In her acceptance speech, Lizzo called on viewers to vote in the upcoming midterm elections “to change some of these laws that are oppressing us.”

Her message resonated with our users: this GIF from her speech was the third most-viewed GIF of the night, with 13.9 million views as of Tuesday.

Taylor Swift won big at this year’s VMAs, taking home the “Video of the Year” award for her music video for “All Too Well (10-Minute Version).” Swift made even bigger news with her acceptance speech: she announced that she would be revealing an all-new album later that evening.

This GIF from that moment was the second most-viewed GIF from the night, with 14.6 million views.

If Sunday was anyone’s night, it was Nicki Minaj’s, who not only co-hosted Sunday’s ceremony, but also was the recipient of the 2022 VMAs Video Vanguard Award.

At the end of the night, Minaj saluted the crowd for making it through a rough couple of years. This GIF from her speech was the most-viewed GIF of the night with 23.1 million views.
