Barbie Doll Created in the Image of the World’s Oldest Supermodel

In 2018 Mattel made a Barbie doll version of model Iris Apfel. Apfel was 96 years old at the time.

Born August 29, 1921, Apfel is still a fashion icon at the age of 101.

Apfel refers to herself as a “geriatric starlet”. And she has no plans of retiring any time soon.

The Barbie doll modeled after Apfel features the same emerald-green suit and ruffled collar she wears on the cover of her book, “Accidental Icon”.

The doll is also wearing the same signature jewelry and thick-rimmed glasses that Apfel is known for.

The Apfel Barbie doll is not for sale. However, there were two Barbie dolls made in the same style as the Apfel doll. The dolls’ clothing was inspired by Apfel’s own accessories brand, Rara Avis.
