For the past few months, I have been single and focused on myself. Each day it has been about bettering my situation for myself and my children, focusing on achieving my goals, and striving to create a life I love. On this path to self-discovery, I have felt a little lonely and realized that I do want to have a partner in my life.
I haven’t always wanted to be in a couple. When Emma Watson went on the record to tell the world she was self-partnered, I raised my hand to acknowledge I was right there with her. The idea of being self-partnered, telling the world that I am whole and happy even though I am uncoupled, is very appealing to me.
Yet after spending my time alone for weeks, focused on no one outside of my family of three, my independence ended up highlighting my desire to have someone to make memories with. As I pass each milestone, lose weight, advance in my career, and more, I want someone I can celebrate and move forward through life with, hand in hand.
