Welcome to Girl on Girl. I’m the executive producer, Lindsay Campbell. You’re welcome to Google me and find all kinds of things to admire (maybe?) and/or make fun of (definitely). Thanks, Internet!
Girl on Girl is a YouTube show (going live March 14th) I’m creating with Hannah Witton, the curious, outspoken, disarming feminist/Londoner/it girl/bookworm you might know from her own amazing channel: Youtube.com/hannahwitton. We’re doing it in conjunction with Astronauts Wanted and we are so grateful to them for giving this show a home!
The show format is simple: 2 girls/1 topic. But unlike that horrific viral video that we can never un-see, these videos feature Hannah and one amazing guest talking about subjects we find challenging: Will I be able to “have it all?” Will I get kicked out of feminism if I get breast implants? Are dating apps the absolute death knell for womankind or actually the best thing ever?
Hannah will be talking to guests who will blow your minds with their minds — comedians, activists, educators, writers — guests like Akilah Hughes and Amani Al-Khatahtbeh, and together we’ll explore all the fantastic, uncomfortable (sometimes fantastically uncomfortable) aspects of being female.
In case you’re still wondering: “Is anyone going to take their clothes off?” Sorry, not on this show. Try Pornhub, PornTube, RedTube, etc, etc. The list *literally* never ends.
Or maybe you’re wondering what the big deal is about two women talking to each other about things. Aren’t there lots of shows that fit that description?
Hold on. Are there?
Can you think of other shows that do? (Please don’t say “The View”.) If you said “The Conversation with Amanda De Cadenet,” you WIN! That show is amazing and this show will be lucky to be in its company. If you said Phoebe Robinson’s “Blaria”, you’re only half right because that’s a podcast. (A podcast we love!) This show isn’t a podcast. (Yet!)
Okay, fine. There are already shows where two women talk to each other. But do you think, just maybe, we could stand to have one more?
With Girl on Girl, we want to carve out some space that we don’t see out there in the interwebs for women who have different experiences and perspectives on the whole “being a woman” thing to talk about things that are hard to talk about. Girl on Girl invites opinionated women who are turned on by complex ideas to come together and challenge each other to see things fresh. And we’re leaving the comment section wide open. Everyone’s welcome. (Okay, feminist police and misogynists are not really welcome but we’re pretty sure they’ll show up anyway. They always do.)
We want to have open, friendly, funny discussions about hot boys, man-haters, female orgasms and equality politics- all in the same place. We’re not trying to find answers because feminism is a process, not a one-stop-shop- religion. You copy? We will be sharing our experiences and hearing from some amazing guests about theirs but we also want to hear YOUR experiences. You are crucial to this process, so please don’t be shy!
