Are tech issues stopping you from playing Girls Go CyberStart? We’ve heard from students and advisors that it can be challenging to get the technology girls need when playing Girls Go CyberStart. Many students face the hurdle of strong restrictions on their PCs or they only have access to a Chromebook. This might be limiting a girl’s belief that she can participate in GGCS, and we won’t have that!

So we are making it easier with a no-cost, cloud-based PC.
To make sure technology isn’t a hurdle, we created a Virtual Portal powered by Network Development Group (NDG), so that every girl has what she needs to participate! Now, advisors can focus on supporting the girls and not the logistics. And girls can focus on solving challenges and winning prizes 😄

What is the Virtual Portal?
When you click on the Virtual Portal, you will be on the desktop of a virtual Linux computer where you open the browser to access Girls Go CyberStart and start playing! The idea is to provide a less restrictive machine so that you will have the tools you need to solve challenges. This virtual machine is “sandboxed” — that means you can use the tools in the computer safely without having any impact on your physical computer. Check out this demo video:

Here are some important technical points:

  • You will be able to use the browser Developer Tools such as View Source or Inspect Element
  • You will be able to access any of the online pages used by Girls Go CyberStart so you can solve Assess and Game challenges.
  • You will NOT be able to access any other domain on the Internet. This makes sure that you are not bypassing your school Internet filter policies.

How do I get to the Virtual Portal?
It’s easy, just follow these 5 steps or download these detailed instructions:

  1. Register for Girls Go CyberStart — you can do this as part of your school club OR as an individual
  2. Go to https://ndg.tech/ggcs — click Launch
  3. Register for an NDG account. We recommend using the same email address that you use for GGCS.
  4. When you complete enrollment, the GGCS Labs page opens — click on Welcome to Girls Go CyberStart
  5. You are now in the GGCS Virtual Portal page! The Linux VM is on the right and the instructions are on the left, make sure to read them before jumping in. You can even make the Portal full screen by clicking on the arrow next to AgentPC and selecting Toggle Full Screen.

Watch the video for a demo of the Virtual Portal and how it makes tools available to solve GGCS challenges. *** The portal does not support mobile devices which means it won’t work on your phone or tablet.

So spread the word to girls and schools that now Girls Go CyberStart has NO LIMITS! Make sure you register to play Girls Go CyberStart and use the Virtual Portal to solve 5 challenges before February 14th so that you can enjoy the amazing fun of Stage 2 CyberStart Game!
