We had the opportunities to talk with Samina Shararani, Social Media Manager at Lamudi to talk about growing audiences into followers in social media. Let’s begin!

Girls Kode: What do you do as Social Media Manager?

Samina: Right now, I lead and manage few person who act as Social Media Specialist. They’re the one who responsible to create engaging and variety of content. My focus was more on creating a strategy that is relevant and aligning audiences with information they’re looking for in a timely manner.

Girls Kode: When this is all started and how is it?

Samina: Believe it or not, I am actually a psychology graduate. I never thought I will be in this place today. In fact, I started my first full time career journey as Recruitment and Selection Officer at one of the biggest media company in Indonesia. But I felt like it was a little boring, so I decided to move in and chase what I love the most. That is writing and social media.

Girls Kode: What technical skills are crucial to have for your position?

Samina: Most important things, you should and have to love social media. It’s very dynamic and fast pace industry, if you’re not lovin’ it, you might get left out. Second, upskills your writing capability. It’s all about giving persuasive sentences to audience. Be creative and never stop being curious.

Girls Kode: As a brand or business owner, how do we choose right platform for us?

Samina: You need to know what is your brand goals, from there, start to create a brand persona to projecting who, what, and where your customers are. Take a look at demographic and insight of each social media. Then, try to connect your brand persona into the most relevant platform of where your customers are.

Girls Kode: How do we use social media effectively?

Samina: As a brand or business, you can create a campaign to introduce your products to the market. Create an objective and ask whether or not people are aware of your brand, whether or not they knew what you stand for. In a awareness metrics, you have to measure the number of impression and reach , it’d be good if you can also set bookmarks and sharing as your metrics conversion value.

Girls Kode: What would to say for people out there who want to work in social media field?

Samina: They should be not afraid to try, try countlessly until you reach the target. Do not be afraid if you’re fail, because failure is the biggest mistake to drive best strategy. Last but not least, keep digging information as much as you can. It’s all about arts and fun in social media, you never exactly know whats going on tomorrow.
