GirlScript Bangalore: Workshop on building a chatbot on AWS with Python
Kicking off GirlScript’s Bangalore Chapter
GirlScript’s Bangalore chapter kicked off with its first event on Sep 14th with a workshop on “Building a chatbot on AWS with Python” organised at Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Bangalore. Around 50 enthusiastic students turned up to learn new skills for future projects and work opportunities. Mr Srushith R, Head of Engineering and Co-Founder at KonfHub, and Mr Dharmendra joined us to upskill the attendees and accelerate their tech careers.
In this day and age of automation and machine intelligence, chatbots are becoming ubiquitous. From food delivery to education/self-learning apps, chatbots have brought down the time to resolution for simple tasks and issues frequently faced by app users like ordering items, making reservations, enquiries about booking details and much more.
Not only does it improve the user experience, but it also reduces the cost of operation of apps, which is a key factor for any enterprise.
With the recent advancement and adoption of cloud technologies, the creation of new apps and services has become increasingly simpler and cheaper. Amazon Web Services is one of the primary cloud services providers, with a simple interface for deployment and maintenance.
This workshop focused on creating a trip booking chatbot using Python and various AWS services like Lex and Lambda among others. The session started with a brief overview of the technologies and tools involved and then moved on to a hands-on session where the speaker helped the participants to create their own bots.
The participants actively tried out new things and were able to successfully set up their own chatbots by the end of the session. The workshop received great feedback from the participants.
It was a great start for GirlScript Bangalore and the response received has motivated the team to host many more events.
