Hey everyone, it’s been a minute!

We’ve had our heads down — awarding GitPOAPs to contributors of projects most central to the Ethereum ecosystem, building, and integrating with protocols that make this ecosystem a little easier and more productive to use. We’ve got some fun updates to share.

Get involved:

Are you doing deep dives into decentralized identity? Have thoughts on how open source software is doing through web3’s adolescence? Are you maintaining a project that involves decentralized reputation or sybil resistance and want to be featured?

We’d love to hear from you — join our Discord and come to the #what-im-building channel!

GitPOAP updates:

  • Public API: We’ve released a public API so that your project can integrate GitPOAPs, check if a POAP is a GitPOAP, find out what addresses hold certain GitPOAPs, and so on. Come on over to our Discord #what-im-building channel if you have any questions or want to discuss use-cases!
  • New Project GitPOAPs: If you ever helped out in core Ethereum repos, Ethereum.org, consensus or execution layer clients, web3.py, Solidity, Ledger, etc. — the list goes on! — we wanted to make sure you got recognized for it. We’re tracking 449 repos now — check what you’re eligible for here
  • Hackathon GitPOAPs: We’re also supporting Hackathons! We award GitPOAPs to all of the participants to help them bootstrap their decentralized reputation. We had a blast at the EthStaker hackathon at Devconnect & the MIT Bitcoin Expo. If you want GitPOAPs at your next hackathon, our Discord has a #suggest-a-repo channel
  • Search all repos: Our website now features an ‘all repos’ page! Go check it out and see what projects you could contribute to in order to earn a GitPOAP
  • Leaderboard opt-out: Don’t want to be the center of attention? We added an option in your GitPOAP profile to hide yourself from the leaderboard

Updates For Maintainers:

  • Notification bot: After many requests, we created a bot that notifies a contributor when their PR has earned them a GitPOAP. We’ve heard from multiple maintainers that there has been a noticeable increase in contributions since configuring the bot. It’s opt-in only, so if you’d like to add it to your repo, follow the instructions here

  • GitHub status badge: Want to show off that your contributors are earning GitPOAPs? We’ve created a README badge to do just that, check out our docs on how to add it

Integrations:

  • earni.fi: Soon you’ll be able to use earni.fi to check for any unclaimed GitPOAPs — stay tuned
  • nftychat.xyz: Want to limit a conversation, bounty, or request for comments to folks who have contributed to your repos in the past? Use nftychat.xyz to create a GitPOAP-gated room
  • POAP.gallery: You can now view anyone’s POAP collection from POAP.gallery by clicking the GitPOAP logo next to a user’s account. Even if you don’t have any GitPOAPs, you can configure your GitPOAP profile & feature your favorite POAPs

Live Events:

  • EthCC: GitPOAP co-hosted a happy hour with Gnosis Chain, Gnosis Safe, and DXdao at Paris rooftop and we talked decentralized identity, open source and, of course, gave away a lot of great merch. We all came away with a lot of great new ideas and are excited to be working on implementing them

  • Devcon: We’re excited that our entire team will be going to Devcon 2022. We’ll have new merch and some extra special things to give to GitPOAP holders — these special items will be limited. Come find us on day 1 and show us your GitPOAPs to collect. We’d also love to chat with anybody working in decentralized identity or supporting open source builders — come find us!

Thanks for reading!

All the best,
GitPOAP Team
