Star

Ring Nebulae found on Google Images

It was a deep dark night.
Actually, it had been night for ages and all I saw
Was the opposite wall, white and lifeless.
There was, also, an acute pain to match the tainted sewing of my sheets.
I was still and slowly healing and, outside, the world did not correspond.

I do not recall how it all happened.
As I looked up, after days of the same scenery, of the same pitch dark sky,
There she was, a bright star pushing away the clouds
And the tempest that had been threatening me for weeks.
I don’t know from which big bang she originated but I was sure
There were colossal galaxies less fascinating than her.
There she was, high and unachievable, but still covering me in such light
It was impossible to remain inert.
The world would declare me a sinner if I did not allow her sharp shine
To perpetuate in each pore of my skin, in each cell of my being.

She made the night so wonderfully whole I even forgot I longed for the sun,
I forgot about any source of light, knowing no other one would be as radiant.
The other things were mere profanities unbathed by her warm glittering.
At first, I could not move, I dare not move, only observe as a nested bird.
Then, her glow would instigate me, arouse me, fill me with words and feelings
And appetite and yearnings I never even knew I had inside me.
But there she was, high, out of reach, and I was just a child with a dream.

“Wish upon a star…” — they say — “…and your dreams may come true.”

Maybe if I wish good enough, the star will keep me company here on earth.
