The Carbon Neutral Charitable fund

Get a glimpse of a great Aussie charity helping grow ecosystems to balance out carbon emissions…

The Carbon Neutral Charitable Fund
To assist the community to adopt a more sustainable approach to a healthy environment and to reduce greenhouse gas (carbon) emissions.

· Why is this a problem?
Earth’s climate is changing rapidly. The primary cause is the release of carbon

dioxide from burning fossil fuels to generate energy to power homes and businesses and transport. We can all play our part in being more energy efficient and neutralising our impact by supporting reforestation as trees remove CO2 from the atmosphere

· Where did it all begin?
Carbon Neutral program was launched in 2001 by Men of the Trees as way of educating the community and addressing climate change by planting more trees in rural landscape.
Since then we have planted 5.4 million trees across more than 200 sites and 4,000 hectares of degraded farmlands.

· A day in the life at CNCF:
Tree planting is done in winter months to ensure optimum establishment, but our work is spread across 12 months in promoting our activities and working with individual and business donors who fund the planting projects.

· Impact Story:
Tree plantings are partnerships with landowners who work with us to restore degraded land that is no longer suitable for farming.

Our most amazing project in recent years is a 100 hectare planting at ‘Yarraweyah Falls’ in the Lower Great Southern region of Western Australia. The 2013 planted site falls within the Gondwana Link, situated along one of Australia’s largest conservation projects, which aims to connect 1000km of bush between Margaret River and the Nullarbor.

The landowners, former Queenslanders Bill and Jane Thompson, were actively involved in the planting and through seed collection complemented our efforts to result in over 300 species of trees and shrubs being successfully established. In total more than 180,000 individual trees and shrubs have been planted to form a link with adjoining natural bush. Already, we’re seeing an influx of fauna transitioning into the site. 26 bird species have been identified so far including the threatened Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo. Also honey possums and skinks have been ‘captured’ by camera.

· What do you do with your donations?
Funding raised by supporters is used to plant trees on degraded sites in rural and peri-urban landscapes. This covers land preparation, sourcing and planting seed and seedlings and planting by machine and by hand. On some sites we use volunteer planters.
We also fund independent site monitoring and on-going maintenance.

· Are you DGR?: YES
Carbon Neutral Charitable Fund is a registered environmental charity and an approved Deductible Gift Recipient by the ATO.
