About This Release

This release addresses compliance with SMS regulations from the FCC, TCPA, and CTIA as they pertain to fundraising online. Along with addressing SMS compliance, we have also added in some new admin functionality around text messaging as well as updates to our privacy policy.

SMS compliance

GiveGrove underwent an internal review of how, when, and why we text users and we wanted to make sure that users have the ability to opt in and out of messages as they see fit. When you log in to GiveGrove for the first time after May 10th, All users will be prompted with two new screens. One asking them to opt-in to GiveGrove generated messages. E.g. when users have been outbid on an item, paying for a live auction item, etc. (Image 1) and Two asking users to opt-in to Organization generated messages. E.g. The text blast tool. (Image 2).

Both messages explain the difference between the two types of messages that they might receive and how they can update their preferences on their profile page. Additionally, we link to our new privacy policy and the TCPA which explains the nature of having to opt-in and consent to receiving text messages from GiveGrove.

Donors now have a new field on their profile page where they can manage their Text Preferences at two different levels

  • Opt-in/out for GiveGrove Messages
  • Opt-in/out for Organization Messages
  • Subscribe or Unsubscribe from Specific Organizations

As you can see at the bottom, if a user opts into Organization Text Messages, if they visit your event page, they will automatically have opted into your text blasts if you have it enabled.

In this second screenshot, you’ll see that this user has opted out of both Local Nonprofit Organization and GiveGrove Sample Organization, but wants to receive alerts from the Boys and Girls Club of Local County.

As an organization administrator, you’ll now have the ability to enable or disable the text blast feature on individual events.

On the Text Blast toolbar, you’ll see a new section to see who has opted in to your Text Blast feature, so you’ll know who is actually receiving your messages.

Additionally, Organization Admins that are using the Text Blast tool can only send one text blast message every 15 seconds. This is to prevent Admins from sending multiple copies of the same text blast back to back.

Donor Experience Updates:

  • Donors can now filter by Stock items on the Silent Auction Module.
  • There is now updated language on confirmation bids to say “If you are opted into receiving text messages, you’ll get an alert that you were outbid.”
  • On iOS, resolved an issue with “swiping” back from Silent Auction.
  • There is now a cookies Banner to let users know our site uses cookies in compliance with privacy guidelines set forth in the CCPA.
  • Solved issue of images not populating when filtering and sorting.
