Amplifying #GiveLocal15
How The Breaking News Network supports the Give Local America movement by getting the word out at the local level
Give Local America is a 24-hour crowdfunding event designed to empower every person to give back to their local communities by supporting the organizations they trust to tackle today’s most critical issues. This year #GiveLocal15 is on Tuesday, May 5.
Give Local America and The Breaking News Network are collaborating to support community partners (foundations, United Ways and nonprofit associations) and their nonprofit members in getting the word of #GiveLocal15 out to their communities.
All #GiveLocal15 advocates can be amplified by the local city news feed of The Breaking News Network (“BNN”) where they are located. The methodology is simple, just add the hashtag #GiveLocal15 to a tweet.
Here’s an example of this in action:
When @GiveGreater, a twitter handle for The Community Foundation of Greater New Haven — a Give Local America participating community, adds the hashtag #GiveLocal15 to their tweet, @CHNGNewHaven, the BNN’s local news feed for social impact, retweets the tweet to New Haven readers.
An added benefit is that, the tweet’s link is rendered in real time at the website Breaking News Haven News. Amplification is selective and voluntary; if the advocate tweet does not include the hashtag #GiveLocal15, there is no retweet.
The BNN has pre-authorized participating communities to use #GiveLocal15. Try adding the hashtag to your next tweet. If the BNN city feed doesn’t amplify the tweet, let us know by applying with us here. In addition, your community’s nonprofits participating in #GiveLocal15 can also participate and have their messages be amplified; simply forward this email and have them apply at the link above. Once authorized, we simply request no spamming of our community news feeds by using the hashtag #GiveLocal15.
