Ways to Help Earthquake Victims in Turkey and Syria on Giveth
On Monday, 6 February 2023 a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Turkey and Syria, killing over 50,000 people (updated 27 Feb), injuring over 100,000 and displacing over 5 million at the latest count with thousands of buildings having collapsed. It is the worst earthquake disaster to have affected Turkey since 1939. Conditions for millions of people in both countries are absolutely dire, with particular worry for northwestern Syria where over 4 million people were already relying on humanitarian assistance for survival prior to the earthquake. Weather conditions are freezing, making rescue efforts difficult and also endangering survivors, as millions are displaced. More than 100 aftershocks have already hit and can have lethal effects as well.
Volunteers ask desperately for aid in Turkey and rebel-held Syria. Hopes of finding more survivors are quickly fading due lack of adequate search and rescue efforts. Survivors are also acutely at mortal risk due to hunger and cold.
Please support humanitarian efforts by donating to the Giveth projects below. Giveth provides a free service for projects to raise donations, which are sent directly from the donor’s wallet to the project’s wallet instantaneously. That means that Giveth takes zero fees, and 100% of your crypto donation goes directly to the project. Your support can be the difference between life and death.
There are currently THREE earthquake relief fundraising project links below.
BanklessDAO Turkey Disaster Relief Fund
This donation fund will contribute to the aid needed by the tens of thousands of people left homeless, including their animals. The aid will primarily target the needs for shelter, food, hygiene and healthcare products.
GRACEaid is an established charity founded in London in 2015 that helps thousands of displaced people, who face war and persecution in their homelands, receive access to basic supplies when they need it most; both internationally and at the heart of the local community.
Thanks to the Giveth platform, GRACEaid was an early adopter in the use of crypto for fundraising by humanitarian aid charities and NGOs. A registered charity in the UK, GRACEaid is fundraising to support earthquake relief in Turkey & Syria.
The earthquake crisis is further exacerbated in Syria due to over a decade of civil war, a lack of infrastructure and an ongoing cholera outbreak. In recent years, North-West Syria has become one of the hardest places to reach with only one aid corridor from Turkey. Gaziantep, at the quake’s epicentre, is an important UN aid hub for northern Syria, and the earthquake has disrupted the vital flow of cross-border aid.
GRACEaid is launching this appeal to support two established and experienced NGOs providing assistance in Turkey and Syria, Ahbap and Molham Team, to meet immediate humanitarian needs and lessen suffering in aftermath.
Anka Relief is a crypto aid fund & a community formed to support Turkey after the recent earthquakes. The Anka Relief organizers previously launched high-impact initiatives, including: unchain.fund, Ukraine DAO, Kyiv Tech Summit, Save Pakistan and ChoiceDAO. Their goal is to foster collaboration in the web3 community, creating a trusted and sustainable relief fund, while closely cooperating with other mission-aligned organizations — like Türkiye Earthquake Relief DAO and Paribu Ventures.
GnosisDAO Earthquake Relief — This temporary, emergency project completed its established timeline, ending 20 February 2023.
This campaign supported those affected by the disaster to provide much-needed relief. The organizers of this project are contributors to the Gnosis ecosystem, and they collected funds using the Giveth platform and bridged them over to the Ethereum network on the address that Ahbap NGO / Earthquake Support Fund controls.
