Hello Everyone!

Some time back, one of our friends had asked us to try out Evie Launcher. Well, we have been using it for a month now and the experience so far has been good. It has clean UI, is easy to setup and convenient to use.

Evie Launcher offers the following features:

  • Swipe up for app drawer
  • In addition, to swipe up for app drawer, it also has the added ability to view apps in either grid or list view and can also view the newly installed apps on top (feature needs to be enabled from Evie settings)
  • Integrated Search — It has the search bar integrated into its UI and can search for a variety of things.
  • It can search for installed apps
  • Contacts
  • Show suggestions from Google Play Store
  • Show results from Goole search
  • Can open URLs
  • Import Layout — Evie Launcher gives the option to export the home screen layout from the previous launcher and it worked fine for us. We had been using the default Samsung Touchwiz UI that comes with the device and after installing Evie, we didn’t have to reorganise the home screen.
  • Customizable Home screen — One can customise the home screen to be the way they like it. It can:
  • Increase/Decrease Columns — minimum and the maximum number of columns can be anywhere between 3 and 12.
  • Increase/Decrease Rows — minimum and the maximum number of rows can be anywhere between 4 and 12.
  • Increase/Decrease Icon Size
  • Hide/View Icon Labels — one can show or hide application names on the home screen
  • Scroll Wallpaper
  • Dock– It has an option for dock, that is, if one wishes to use their device while it is docked, then Evie offers a different customizable layout.
  • Icon Pack — It has the ability to set different icon packs, wherein, one can either use system(default) icons, or can download an icon pack from the play store.
  • Unread Badges — One can turn on unread badges id they want. Unread badges show the unread message count for every app for which the feature is turned on.
  • Gestures — Currently Evie Launcher has 3 gestures and promises to add more soon.
  • Two fingers swipe up for Google Now — works only on home screen
  • Double Tap to lock — One can lock the phone by double tapping on the home screen and can choose to either lock the phone instantly or after a delay of 5–10 seconds.
  • On Instant Lock, the fingerprint will not work, while in timer lock(delay lock), the fingerprint will work.
  • Home button to search — works only on home screen and can be used to bring up Evie search instead of using the swipe down to search gesture.
  • Customizable Search box and actions — Appearance of the search box and actions performed by it can be customised in the following ways
  • Search Bar Style — It has two modes Subtle and White. In the subtle mode, the search box changes its colour and blends into the wallpaper, while if it is set to white, then the search box colour remains fixed as white irrespective of the wallpaper.
  • Done button action — When one taps the done button on the keyboard after typing into the search box, it can either close the keyboard or open the first result it displays.
  • Google results open in browser — Evie Launcher, by default, opens up the google search results in its own browser but if one wants to open the search results in their own browser, then they can simply head to settings and turn on google results open in browser.
  • Hide apps — Evie launcher does not have the option to hide apps in the app drawer, but one can head to Evie settings and hide the apps that they would like to.

These are all the features that there are on the Evie Launcher App and in our experience is an excellent launcher. The only drawback of the app is that the unread badges feature does not work properly, for eg. if one receives a WhatsApp message and dismisses that message from the notification bar, then the unread badge also disappears. At first, we thought maybe this was because WhatsApp is a third-party app but then the same thing happened with the email app. So, we request developers of Evie to fix this issue at the earliest, otherwise, the purpose of having unread badges is defeated.

Evie Launcher is available for download on the Google Play Store and is completely free of cost.

Thats all folks.

Thanks.
