Motorola had recently launched the Moto Z range of smartphones and with them they had launched a new concept — Mods. These mods are what makes the Moto Z range of smartphones unique.

What are Moto Mods?

Moto Mods are snap on portable gadgets that are compatible with Moto Z and Z Play and add greater functionality to the device.

Moto Mods can be used to convert the device into a camera, projector or a speaker, that is, it gives the convenience and flexibility to the consumer to opt for the right functionality for their device.

Types of Moto Mods

There are a variety of Moto Mods that are on offer and are available on Amazon and Flipkart.

  • JBL SoundboostJBL soundboost is a speaker which snaps on to the back of the phone. It comes with a kickstand and in-built battery so that it provides 10 hours of battery life before using the phone’s battery to boost the audio output.

It is a useful mod and one can get it for Rs. 6,999 but the main disadvantage with the device is that it is compatible only with a Moto Z or Z Play and doesn’t offer bluetooth connectivity (there are other portable speakers with bluetooth in the same price range).

  • Insta — Share Projector — It’s another mod from Motorola and can help project content from the device at a resolution of 480p and also has an in-built battery which provides a battery backup of 1 hour before using up the phone’s battery. It can project up to a screen size of 70 inches and also has kickstand to adjust the angle of projection.

It also has physical controls for brightness, angle and focus and is currently up for pre-orders.

Price : Rs. 19,999

  • Incipio OffGrid Power Pack — It’s a snap on portable battery pack for Moto Z smartphones with battery capacity of 2220mAh which offers up to 20 hours of battery life. It can be re- charged through wall charger or through wireless charging.

It will be available soon for a price of Rs. 5,999.

  • Style ShellsStyle Shells are snap on back covers which provide a more premium look and feel to the device. These are available in a wide range of material, textures and fabrics. Style mods are being provided with the phone itself.

Currently, the price for these shells are not available.

  • Hasselblad True ZoomHasselblad True Zoom is a snap on camera with a sensor resolution of 12MP and unlike other mods which have a battery life of their own, this mod is dependent on the phone’s battery and uses either phone’s storage or google photos to back up images.

It has 10x optical zoom and also offers a variety of functions( manually setting the ISO, exposure, etc) and capture modes (Photo, panorama, video, professional, etc).

Price : Rs. 19,999

So, that’s all the kinds of Moto Mods that there are on offer right now and they seem to be pretty useful but the drawback with every one of them is that once you switch to a phone other than a Moto Z or Z play, they will be rendered useless and that somewhere puts a question mark as to how value for money they are!.

Thats all folks.

Thanks.
