Samsung has launched a new budget phone and this time it is the Galaxy J3 Pro.

This is the first time that Samsung has launched a device exclusively on Paytm instead of Amazon or Flipkart, on which it normally launches its phones.

Specifications:

  • 2GB RAM
  • 1.5 Ghz Quad Core Spreadtrum Processor
  • 16 GB internal memory, expandable up to 128 GB via micro SD card
  • 5 inches sAMOLED HD display
  • 2600 mAh
  • Primary Camera — 8 MP
  • Secondary Camera — 5 MP
  • Dual SIM
  • Colours — Black, White and Gold
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop OS
  • S Bike mode
  • Ultra Data Savings

Well, one look at the specifications and it tells you that this phone isn’t definitely worth the buy. So, here are the pros and cons according to us :

Pros

  • sAMOLED Display — Samsung’s decision to offer LED display on a phone that cost less than 10k was definitely a wise one, none of the well established brands offer LED display with sub 10k phones. The thing with LED displays is that it makes the display more vibrant and also reduces the battery consumption in comparison to LCD display.
  • Smart features — It comes with S bike and Ultra data saving modes, the notable thing here is both of these features are generally found on mid ranged smartphones from Samsung.
  • S Bike Mode when switched on keeps the rider’s mind off call alerts while riding a bike.
  • Ultra Data Savings Mode can help save upto 50% of the data when switched on.

Cons

  • Android 5.1 Lollipop — Galaxy J3 comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop, which is two generations old and isn’t the OS we expected Samsung to give out with a phone they launch in 2017. If not Android 7, the least Samsung could have done was to offer Android 6 out of the box.
  • Design — Galaxy J3 follows the primitive design that Samsung has always had prior to glass and metal uni body phones. It is not at all appealing to look at. The bezels are also out of context in White and Gold Colour variants of the phone, the issue here is, while the phone is in white or gold colour the bezels around the screen are in Black. J3 Pro will sure stand out amongst other phones for it looks but not for a good reason.

Verdict

We wouldn’t recommend anyone to go in for this phone, because of its drawbacks. There are other phones in the market such as the Moto E3 Power which while having a LCD display offers Android 6, bigger battery and fast charging.

While, most of the people may or may not see Android 5.1 Lollipop to be a problem for a device which has been launched in 2017, there are certain drawbacks to it. As all of us know, Android is developed by Google and when advancements are made or new versions are released of the OS, the changes are not limited only to the visual appearance, there are certain under the hood improvements which boost performance, reduce battery consumption which ultimately lead to a more wholesome experience for the user.

Thats all folks.

Thanks.
