“Cold Comfort”, the today released second single by Leeds three-piece Caro, is intelligent indie-pop at its best! The track effortlessly mixes a sort of singer-songwriter waltz with the high-energy and harmonies of prog rock, yet without ever sounding pompous or too experimental. “Cold Comfort” is a rather mature piece of music with its smart complexity and simply stunningly beautiful. Caro are a band to watch-out for because this is just the beginning and if the previously released track “Admit/Resist” and now “Cold Comfort” are any indication, there’s more awesome music to come! Listen now to “Cold Comfort”, our Song Pick of Monday.

From all electronic music duos Sofi Tukker has managed to carve out their own sound that stick in your head with repetitive lyrics and melodies. Our Song Pick of Tuesday “Déjà Vu Affair” is more conventional but no less cool with its urgent synth line and dramatic guitar riffs. Their debut EP is expected for July 8th and they are currently on U.S. tour together with French electronic music giant M83.

Fans of the heavier version of electric blues rock rejoice because here come Kit Trigg with their debut EP “Thrasher”. While all four tracks are equally exciting, we chose the title track “Thrasher” as our Song Pick of Wednesday, and the reason for this is simple: there is just so much longing but also promise in the opening bars of “Thrasher”, that it leaves the listener speechless and craving for more. Kit Trigg give the more established blues inspired alt-rock bands a run for their money with “Thrasher” and totally convince with their bluesy-raspy vocal chops, guitar, drum and songwriting skills.

Our Song Pick of Thursday “Wanderlust” by Empara Mi is a wonderfully slow burning, intense track. It is her first release and there is not much to be found about her, but she has her social media in order, so I am sure we will hear more from her soon.

There’s one word that comes immediately to mind when listening to “Supernova”, the new single by Los Angeles indie rock band Water District: BEAUTIFUL! The meaning behind the track in Water District’s own words: “Supernova is a song about what occurs when people explore new things in search of greatness and success. [..] it is written from the perspective of someone reaching out to a loved one who left them behind and moved to the big city in search of fulfilling their big dreams.”

“Supernova” is an elegantly crafted song, giving ample room to a catchy melody played on a (real) piano, with steady drum beats, alluring guitar work, and letting Tice Griffin’s smooth and charming vocals shine. I get a bit of a Death Cab for Cutie vibe here, of some of their finest works like “I Possess Your Heart”, and if you like the latter, you should totally love “Supernova”, our Song Pick of the Friday.

With Northside Festival (Brooklyn’s up-and-coming answer to SXSW et al) in full swing, I was looking for a cool local track to feature as our Song Pick of Saturday and found one with “Heartstrings” by New York artist Jon Prezant. “Heartstrings” is a sweet, upbeat and slowly swelling synth pop tune boasting great hooks. It’s the perfect song to start or end you day, and while the lyrics contrast with the bouncy vibe, that’s exactly the uplifting part of the song when the chorus keeps on going with “I am moving on”.

Our Song Pick of Sunday is the debut single of young music student Frances Murray, aka BLAB. “Johnny” seriously rocks with distorted, noisy guitars, which contrast with her clear, bright vocals. It’s a track you can listen over and over again and I’m beyond curious what else she has in stock for her July 1 EP release.
