Our Song Pick of Monday is a track which I’ve been listening a lot lately: “Fire” by Israeli singer/songwriter Sivan Talmor. It is slow, moody and full of melancholy and yearning. Sivan is well known in her home country and now crosses over to the U.S. — hopefully there will be an opportunity to see her live with her band soon.

“Loser Like You” opens with a big dose of shimmery laid-backness, when the narrative starts and eventually a big dose of swagger kicks in and one can’t help but sing along to “I don’t want to waste my time waiting on a looser like you”.

Well done, Argonaut & Wasp who provide the following insight about their new single: “The song was written late at night, in a state of utter confusion — our minds were cluttered with frustration, an internal bully and an internal underdog, how can we express this feeling of internal conflict but to have these two characters, these two iconic figures come to life through a narrative. We had them play out in our songwriting, the sound design, and the creation of this piece.”

We totally dig the chill and irresistible “Loser Like You” and make it our Song Pick of Tuesday.

“Psycho” is the new single by modern renaissance man Denny White, who has written, played and produced the track all by himself. Listening to Denny White’s vocals is like enjoying a single malt scotch whiskey brought to its fullness with just a few drops of water (not ice), which at first will hit you with a delightful harshness, until the smoothness and exquisite flavor set in, and last for… a long time.

Trying to stay topical with the drink analogy since the lyrics early on muse about “what did I drink”, yet after only a little while the song heads into more enigmatic territory because the track is called “Psycho” after all.

Denny White, who makes up half of the sunny indie duo Golden Coast, provides the following insight: “We all have a crazed side hiding deep within, it’s how you react to it that shapes you. Sometimes it takes someone special to bring it out and this song is a fun ode to never wanting to go back to the “normal” you.”

“Psycho” delights as a sensual alt-pop track, with a dark and mysterious vibe.

London trio Mt. Wolf enlisted the help of Australian singer/songwriter St. South for their beautiful song “Golden”. I love the interplay between female and male vocals, accompanied by a smooth blend of acoustic and electronic textures. Mt. Wolf are working on the debut album, which is expected for later this year.

For starters, “Rivers Run Riot” is stunningly gorgeous and one of the stand-out-tracks of 2016! With that being established, “Rivers Run Riot” also holds a certain menace, urgency and wistfulness, and makes you slightly uncomfortable but in a good way, because after all, this is a song that gets directly to you. Reading about the lyrical intent, I’d say Oxford musician Krusoe brought music and message close to each other: “Rivers Run Riot is about the madness of love and its tumultuous nature.”

I almost couldn’t wait to finally write about this song, and now that I can, I want you to listen to it.

Gisela Fulla-Silvestre aka NOIA goes all out in her latest track: she combines synths, noise, diverse beats and multiple vocal layers into a rich musical experience. Noia is originally from Spain, but now based in New York, which seems to be the right place to make music that mixes so many cultural influences. Her debut EP “Habits” is due out October 14 on Cascine.

“CBM” stands for colors, beauty and motion and London producer Kelly Lee Owens told The Fader that it is inspired by the experience of seeing the earth from space. Of course she has not been in space herself, but this subtle techno track conveys the feeling of weightlessness and disorientation very well. Kelly is working on her new EP “Oleic”, due out October 21.

What’s your take? If you enjoyed the music, press the little heart please. Thanks, and lots of love from Brooklyn!
