Many of you have read about Glasswall Security Tagging and you must be keen to see how it actually works.

A visual demonstration is below, which starts with a file that is not Tagged, and proceeds to demonstrate the retrieval of the tag of a file after being tagged by Glasswall Security Tagging.

  1. First, we need an input file. For this demonstration, I have selected an Excel file, but this can be any file type.
Input file

2. Below is a snippet of the file which holds the data to be inserted into random locations of the input file above (Security Tagging).

3. Now, by the simple command below, this will perform the complex Glasswall Security Tagging processes to tag the input file with the ‘digitalsignature.xml’ file content.

Once this command is executed, an output directory gets created, which contains the modified input file, which now contains the tag. Please note that this file has not changed in any noticeable way. The Security Tagging works in a completely transparent manner.

4. Next, once the input file has been tagged, the command below will retrieve the tag from the tagged file.

That’s it! The picture below shows the retrieved Security Tag which has been extracted from the file and placed in a .xml file.

The future of Glasswall Security Tagging:

The power and potential of Glasswall Security Tagging is enormous. All files are able to be tagged after seamlessly being dissected and re-packaged. Glasswall is able to externalise internal files by making all the file internals accessible, then, Security Tagging can be injected into the file, after which the file is packaged back into a single file.

Glasswall has some exquisite ideas and examples which are heading toward the direction of making a real change in the world of technology and security. Applying complex algorithms to perform file dissection to be able to inject down to its core, just touches the surface with the future of Glasswall. Security Tagging is just one of many innovations.
