To drive our engineering and operations to the next level we are going to hire 5x ‘Productivity Engineers’ interns to work directly in our Squads, in all sorts of automation and commoditisation activities.

As with we everything we do these days, we are going to be creative and flexible in the process of finding and recruiting the amazing talent that is out there, and discover who will be a perfect match for our culture and acceleration.

For example:

  • the employment duration can be 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 months or more
  • we can do contracting, flexible hours or traditional intern employment
  • we will work with universities and other training organisations
  • we will create an ‘Intern Squad’ which will be focused on the selection and on-boarding of talent
  • we are NOT going to look at traditional CVs (never a good representation of a candidate’s energy, innovation, learning capability and capabilities)
  • the initial application process is going to be based on challenges (see details below)
  • we are looking for raw talent and are specially interested in existing professionals that want to up-skill and learn

Glasswall is currently pioneering our own ‘Squads and Maps’ Framework, focused on creating a fast pacing company, delivering value/features to customers and in an environment where every team member makes a difference.

This Framework is inspired by the amazing ideas and concepts shared by: Spotify Squad Framework, Wardley Maps, Teams Topologies book, Inspired book and Cynefin Framework.

To make our organisation scale and be empowering, we are putting a lot of energy and resources in the ‘Operations Squad’, which is the Squad focused on making the all Squads productive and effective. The resources we are hiring are going to start in this Squad and move quickly into our other ‘very customer focused’ Squads (who are all asking for resources and talent)

So if you or someone you know, wants to work on real-world challenges, who wants to be empowered everyday and who loves to learn, then this is the right opportunity.

To make the process fair (i.e. avoid having to make initial selections based on traditional CVs) and to allow us to help all candidates (even if they are not successful), here is what we ask candidates to do:

  • Create a presentation about themselves (see this or this for an example)
  • Create a presentation about a couple use cases built on top of an evaluation version of Jira Cloud (i.e. create a new account, customise Jira, create a number of tickets and explain the story)
  • Create a presentation with an Wardley Map (for example: about an industry, about you or even about a cup of coffee). In this presentation we also want to see the candidate’s experience of creating that map, the thought process and the learning experience
  • Put all materials in a public or private GitHub/GitLab repo (bonus points for the use of CI/CD pipelines and releasing materials under a Creative Commons licence)
  • Email us on careers@glasswallsolutions.com

We have three main objectives with this recruitment process:

  1. Make all candidates better by exposing them to modern ideas and workflows
  2. Create a learning opportunity for all candidates (which is one of the key metrics that we will be using when selecting the candidates)
  3. Create a fair process to find talent that otherwise would be missed

Please share this post with your network and help us to find amazing talent that wants to learn a lot and make a massive difference
