Using Penetrating Epoxy (Git-Rot) to repair a bulkhead

I never thought that this topic would be as popular as it has been on our blog, but it certainly has been. On our last boat, we had a bulkhead that had some rot in it from a leaking port prior to us buying it. Before I ripped out the bulkhead and replaced it, I wanted to try something a little less extreme. I tried to use a penetrating epoxy from Git Rot to repair it rather than replace and it worked wonderfully.

I filmed every step of the process in hopes that it may help others and this one video still ranks as our highest viewed video (of over 200 others) on our youtube channel.

Squeezing Penetrating Epoxy into holes drilled in the plywood

The process was not terribly hard, but it did require drilling many holes into the bulkhead that went 3/4'ths of the way through the bulkead and angled down. This was for maximum penetration of the liquid into the rotted and loose fibers of the plywood. Then it was just a matter of slowly squeezing the liqued into each hole and waiting for it to start to seep out around the input location. After filling in every hole multiple times until no more liqud epoxy would be absorbed, it let it harden. You can see (and hear) the results in the video embeded here.

The link above contains the original blog post and some additional detail and links for those interested in this kind of a repair.
