What GLInB means?

Superficially “Gemba, Lean, Internet of things and Big data” looks as a string of jargon arrangement, or two sets of different worlds. In one end, “Gemba” and “Lean” seems “old school” disciplines from some tranditional shopfloor wisdom like “Toyota Way”, and in the other end, “Internet of things” and “Big data” represents those hot and sexy technologies that simply catch people’s eyeballs like stunning stars. Such concepts or knowledge should work as two parallel lines and why and how we joint and blend it?

In fact, all attributes to the spirit of “Decision making by fact”! No matter philosopy from Japanese guru like Ichino Ohno or statistics requirement emphasized by western scholars like Edward Deming, problem solving or continuous improvement always builds on observed objective facts and collect data. But the challenge is we don’t have the “crystal ball” to see what we want to see. As long as you don’t have perfect and complete information, there is always uncertainty and risk to increase cost of your decision. It impacts on supply chain most as limitation on the spatial and temperal dimensions.

Today we appreciate these trends like open source, collaboration community, and various inference algorithms, etc., we can leverage and then develop tools to reduce duplicate inspections in supply chain, or monitor remote workmanship by computer vision, even diagnose a factory based on thousands of similar audit data.

So our destiny is to

rejuvenate supply chain quality by applying technologies which virtualizing facts to analytics with passionate fellows.
