Step-By-Step Guideline: How To Upgrade To The Latest Firmware

We always encourage users to upgrade their firmware regularly in order to achieve the best user experiences. In this article, we will provide you with the easiest step-by-step guideline on how to update your router to the latest firmware. Let’s use Brume-W (GL-MV1000W) as an example.

PART 1: CONNECT TO THE ROUTER

1. Connect your router to a power cable.

2. You can connect your router via Ethernet cable or WiFi.

Connect via LAN

Connect your router’s LAN port and your computer’ Ethernet port with an Ethernet cable.

Connect via WiFi

Connect to the WiFi called GL-MV1000-xxx. If this is your first time to set up this router, the default WiFi password will be goodlife, which is also printed on the bottom of the router. If you previously set up and change the password, please fill in the password that you set up with. You can also connect to the Internet with your WAN port from your modem.

PART 2: UPGRADE TO THE LATEST FIRMWARE

1. Open a web browser (we recommend Chrome or Firefox) and visit our admin panel. Enter the password that you set up with your router.

If you are connected via LAN, your admin panel should be like this.

If you are connected via WiFi, the WLAN Clients indicator will be turned on.

You can upgrade the firmware by online upgrade or local upgrade via our admin panel.

Online Upgrade

2. After you get into the admin panel, you need to connect to the Internet. There’re four methods: by cable, as repeater, by USB modem and tethering. After you connected to the Internet, click the “UPGRADE” button on the left. A red dot will appear if there is any available update on “Online Upgrade”, click “Download” and wait for the download process.

3. Click “Install” to install the upgrade.

4. After the installation, log in again with your password.

Local Upgrade

To manually upgrade to the latest version, download our release file in our download site first and drag the folder to our Admin Panel.

2. Visit GL.iNet Download Site, and select the device that you would like to update. In this case, we select MV1000.

Once you get in, click “release”.

Download the latest update. In this example, the latest update will be “openwrt-mv1000-emmc-3.104.img” (aka the AdGuard Home upgrade).

3. Click “UPGRADE” on the left and select “Local Upgrade”. Drag the latest update file that you downloaded from our download site there and click “Install”.

4. After the installation, log in again with your password.

PART 3: MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN THE LATEST VERSION

1. Click “UPGRADE” and make sure you are now in the latest firmware version available.

2. In this case, the latest update is for AdGuard Home. Click “APPLICATIONS” and then “AdGuard Home”. Now you can use AdGuard Home freely!
