It’s Time for 28 Days of the Web!
My name is Maurice Cherry, and I’m the creator of 28 Days of the Web, a project to recognize black designers, developers and creatives in celebration of Black History Month. To date, over 100 creative people have been recognized, and we even recognize an additional person for leap years!

The idea for this project was inspired by serial tech entrepreneur Wayne Sutton and designer and technologist Tina Shoulders. Back in 2010, Wayne created 28 Days of Diversity, a project focusing on men and women of color impacting the social web. During each day in February, he featured the profiles of different black thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and other professionals, and it took the Web by storm. In April, Tina created 28 Days of Diversity in Design, a collection of designers of color creating amazing work in the fields of furniture and interior design. (The original website is offline, but the profiles are preserved as an eBook.)

Both of these projects really excited and motivated me, and in 2013 I created Revision Path, a platform and podcast dedicated to highlighting black designers and developers. As Revision Path approached its one year anniversary in February, 28 Days of the Web was officially born. I felt this was an awesome way to continue the spirit and purpose of both Wayne’s and Tina’s original series, but this time with a focus on the builders and makers of the Web.
This year is the fifth installment of 28 Days of the Web, so if this is your first time hearing of it, here’s how it goes. Each day in February, 28 Days of the Web features a short profile of a designer or developer which includes their website, Twitter handle, and a short bio. This year we are sponsored by Glitch, and they will feature weekly video interviews with some of this year’s honorees! You’ll be able to learn more about their work, discover what motivates and inspires them, and listen to their advice for aspiring creators. You don’t want to miss these videos! Our first video in this series will be with Dan Dickson, creative director at Vevo, which will come out soon.
Make sure you check out 28 Days of the Web throughout February for the rest of this year’s superstars!
