Malnutrition due to the lack of adequate nutrition is detrimental to the human body. Children affected by malnutrition often suffer long-lasting impacts on their health. Their physical and cognitive development may lag behind others and put them at a disadvantage later in life.

If malnutrition is not addressed, it can deteriorate further into life-threatening situations and result in death.

North-Eastern Nigeria emergency

The jihadist terrorist organization Boko Haram started an armed rebellion against the government of Nigeria in 2009 and brought much hardship to the region. This armed conflict in Northeast Nigeria has seriously undermined the availability of food. 3.4 million people are facing acute hunger and 300,000 children are suffering from acute malnutrition.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is working with the Nigerian government to tackle this urgent situation. 4.3 million people are entirely dependent on food aid.
