Before you start cooking, fully read through your recipe; if it calls for some items to be chopped, diced, or cut in any other way, do it first and put them aside so they’re ready to use when the time comes.

Preparing ingredients ahead of time will ensure not only that you have all of the items on hand (so you won’t have to run next door and borrow an egg!), but if the steps in the recipe progress quickly, you won’t risk overcooking or taking too much time to prepare the ingredients between steps.
