The Brexit story of the day is EU’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier said he strongly opposed parts of Theresa May’s Chequers Plan for Brexit.
- Barnier said plans for a “common rulebook” for goods but not services were not in the EU’s interests. “Our own ecosystem has grown over decades, you can not play with it by picking pieces,” he said.
- The significance of this comment is that even the EU and Barnier’s disagreement with the Chequer Plan is commonly known, Barnier has explicitly criticized the plan before. This cast a cloud on the final stage of Brexit…
