Description of Organization: Importaciones JuanX has been importing products from the U.S. to Colombia since 2010, such as watches, motorcycle and bike parts, clothing, sneakers, laptops, and more. We ensure commitment and responsibility, because we understand the inherent risk in this business and are mindful of tax obligations, the benefits of maintaining cordial relations with our employees, customers, and suppliers.

What inspired you to start this organization? It began when I was doing my university studies and saw an opportunity and need to import products to Colombia for retail sale. We initially provided quotations via emailed spreadsheets, and built a good customer base during the first several years. Earnings were excellent. In 2012, I quit my day job and traveled to USA to find suppliers and means of international transport.

What is the next big step you hope to help your organization reach? Create a Web page and an app for sales; to be better known domestically in Colombia; and to find more international suppliers.

What has been your biggest obstacle as an entrepreneur? Exchange rate changes. With last year’s extreme variation of rates, we had to recognize that current sales levels were not enough. Such things happen, sometimes unpredictably, but you don’t give up. In the end, solutions are found and people you know support you in those hard moments.

What advice would you give other emerging entrepreneurs? Persistence, find the right partners, and continue working even without immediate results. Sometimes gains, sometimes losses — face that and you will find your own way.
