What is Academic Writing?

In December 2024, I was invited by Medium to join a panel with Carin-Isabel Knoop (on Humans in the Digital Era) and Enrique Dans on academic writing (and in my case the editing of academic writing) on Medium. Needless to say, I am excited by Medium’s recognition of the potential this platform has to support academics and to help them share their work with the world.

I have a lot to say on this topic, and I sense that Medium has tapped into a genuine need, partly due to what Medium offers and partly due to what the academy (particularly the academic publishing industry), in its present form, lacks.

Further, I think Global Literary Theory (the publication I edit along with other brilliant colleagues like Fehmina Hashmi and Kayvan Tahmasebian) is well-positioned to support these goals and I hope you will consider sharing your work with us, whether or not you are an academic.
