The United States joined world leaders in recognizing International Women’s Day and the equitable participation of women in social, political, and economic life, and its importance to establishing peace and prosperity.

“I have the great pleasure of celebrating International Women’s Day this year by hosting the 15th annual International Woman of Courage (IWOC) Award ceremony. The recipients of this year’s award demonstrate that courageous women inspire a better world.” — United States Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken March 8, 2021

Since 2007, the US Department of State has recognized more than 155 women from over 75 countries. U.S. missions overseas nominate one woman of courage from their host countries to receive the IWOC Award.
