Who we are and what we have done so far?

Our hub is made up of a multidisciplinary team of scientists, entrepreneurs, artists, lawyers, and psychologists, among others. Our diversity represents the dynamism and variety of our city. And each one of us contributes with their different skills to the projects and challenges that we tackle. We are born out of the desire to make things happen. And want to channel our energy in creating synergies within a strong community of young actors, determined to maximize the potential of Barcelona as a multicultural and thrilling European city.

Since the beginning of our existence, we’ve managed to get these following projects running:

Startup Weekend BCN Social Impact

Startup Weekend is a global network of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs with the mission to inspire, educate and motivate teams, individuals and communities. Participants had to develop a social impact idea as devising a feasible business model.

Startup Weekend, which is powered by Google for Entrepreneurs, is a non-profit entrepreneurship education event that brings together innovators, marketers, developers and designers.

Founded in 2007 by Andrew Hyde, Startup Weekend is based on a learn-by-doing methodology via fast decision-making, out of the box thinking, and a unique technique.

AI Saturdays

The Barcelona Hub project “AI Saturdays” is a community-driven, non-profit and global movement aiming to make Artificial Intelligence education with the quality and rigour of the world’s best universities accessible to anyone, for free. AI6s are structured study groups going through materials used in universities like Stanford, Berkeley, and UCL, which cover cutting-edge techniques in AI and deep learning. These study groups are held every Saturday, with structured materials and sessions targeted for people at all skill levels. The hub created a learn-by-doing approach in which, after introducing the general concepts of AI programming, the fellows come together in teams and develop projects according to their passions. All the projects are open source and ideally, with a social focus.

What about the projects that we kicked off this year 2019?

European Parliament Project

We approached the EU parliament in late November last year with the idea of organising few meetups in a collaboration with them. The main concept is to focus on the disruption and innovation of society. We are nowadays in touch with them and thinking about the action moves.

Trash & Brunch

Trash & Brunch is a monthly meeting that aims to make people more conscious of waste. Each gathering consists of two parts: The first one is to collect rubbish examples in a busy location [ for ex. Barcelona beach] for afterwards analysis. The results are going to be shared in our social media, ensuring scientific rigour. After that, we have brunch while talking about sustainability.

This project is a way to keep doing things for the environment, while we research about sustainability state in Barcelona and plan for more higher-impact projects.

We have more projects in our pipeline, so stay in touch to know more!
