Set free, in the desert.

While most stories start from the beginning, mine begins on the day it came to an end. I sat across the departure hall reminiscing each of those fantastic days that I had spent in a splendid country — Egypt.

Egypt will never just be about exploring the gigantic Nile or the mysterious Pyramids. To me, it will remain in my heart and mind because it is here that I could explore my inner self.

Here is the end that I promised to speak about first. Eyes glazing with memories, I rolled my bags down the departure terminal. Memories of being on my first ever exchange with a random bunch of strangers who had come to become more than friends, memories of travelling down to the Mediterranean ocean — all of it came alive at that moment. Wallahi (I swear), the adventure had just begun!

Thanks to the team of AIESECers (a shout-out to AIESEC in Vizag as well as AIESEC in Cairo University) — it was all done so effortlessly, both the planning as well as the execution.

Monica, Ana and I on our Luxor-Aswan Trip

This was a trip beyond ordinary. The glitter of the Arabian sands, the surreal Pyramids, magnificent canyons and the unfathomable night spent at Mount Sinai — these were visions that my eyes will never cease to feel amazed about.

Week after week, the adventure unfolded as I treaded to the most spectacular parts of the country only to be in awe of what the land had in store for me. Not only did I endlessly travel, I came over some of my greatest fears, which were both physical as well as mental — thanks to Project Explore. Undaunted, I stood over the majestic Saint Catherine, snorkeled with exotic fishes in the depths of the ocean at the Blue Hole. Even though I had my floating jacket on, I still wonder what kept me from putting all my fears behind me!

Climbing steep cliffs in the company of awesome people

It was that crazy batch of strangers that persistently motivated to keep me going. A voice within always summoned me to give things a shot. We only live once they say, and we’ve got to seize each and every moment! And I guess in Egypt I did exactly the same.

As I sat alone at the departure hall I did not just carry pictures in my phone and a few souvenirs for home. With me came along a myriad of emotions, unforgettable memoirs and a new me. In fact, a better me who had learnt from the ups and downs that this brief trip had to offer.

Farewell Night at the Faluka

I met people whose hearts touched mine and entwined into a bond of everlasting friendship.
I wish I could hug them just one more time. Or play a pack of cards for one last time and let loose those midnight shenanigans once again. I am hopeful however that I will see them again.

Shukran Egypt for everything. I have fallen in love with you. We shall meet soon, Inshallah!
